Why Is the Body of Christ on a Story?
Missional living is definitely a popular saying that is all over the place these days. the concept that we have to compartmentalize churches, missional, has for eternity been somewhat weird to me. I ask you, shouldnt all churches be missional in their very core? all churches, at its very nature, desire to engage their culture and area with the good news as a missionary would in a another country? Isnt this what the places of worship is commanded to do in the last challenge from Jesus in Matthew 28:19? Our own local area requires this type of church. Church in Austin is slowly gravitating to what our Creator instructed in Holy Word.
The Son of God gives the charge in Acts 1:8 saying, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 personifies this subject as, right before Jesus Christ leaves to go to Heaven, He sends the disciples on a mission that would start right in their own community. He begins with their origin of Jerusalem, and then stretches the call to the uttermost parts of the world.
As believers, we are not urged to loneliness, but to be missional followers of Jesus who are anxiously going out and going to areas right where they are with the gospel. We have gazed at this throughout history: God motivated Abraham on a mission to go out of his country and his people and go to the city that God would show him (Gen. 12:1), God urges Moses on a story to save an enslaved people and lead them to freedom (Exodus 3:8-10), God moved Jesus on a story to globe to bring back all things to Himself through the blood of Christ (Colossians 1:20). And now God is sending the church on a exploration to engage areas, cities, ethnicities, and even nations with the gospel(Matt. 28:19 Mark 6:7 Luke 10:1 John 20:21 Acts 1:8). If we reject this motivation and continue to see the places of worship like a invite only country club ” demanding that people fix their abilities, pay their fees, and visit to our place of worship God will continue His exploration without us.
