What to Look for in an Evening Dress

When you’re shopping for an evening dress, it’s a big deal. Jeans are simple, tops are no problem, but evening dresses hold an element of grace and beauty that makes them so much more complicated. You want to look your absolute best in them, so it’s important to know what to look for in an evening dress before you purchase one.

First of all, take whatever your usual style is and throw it out the window. Go for something totally different from what people usually see you in, so they will be shocked when they see you.

Secondly, make sure you’re getting a dress that compliments your figure. For example, dresses that have a deep plunging neckline may not flatter you if you don’t have an ample bust. It could leave you looking empty up top and feeling insecure. If you are full figured, than you may want to wear one that is a bit longer with a flair at the bottom. It will slim you and make you feel exquisite. Also, the right size is just as important as the right style. Evening dresses that are too small or too large will not give you that stunning look that you’re going for.

Lastly, make sure the color is one that compliments your skin tone. If you have dark skin, for example, you will be complimented by light colors, such as white or khaki, or pastel colors, such as baby blue and pink. Dark colors on dark skin should be avoided. If you have a medium skin tone, you’re not as limited. You could wear dark colors, such as black and navy blue, or even bright colors, such as turquoise or hot pink. The only things that should be avoided with a medium tone are colors that are too close to your skin pigmentation. If you have fair skin, pastel colors, such as a peachy pink, and light colors, such as beige and off-white, will accent your skin tone the best. Colors that are extremely bright and bold will not suit fair skin.

If you follow these three simple guidelines, you’re sure to find the perfect evening dress.
