Laser Marking Services
Laser marking is the process of drawing images on objects using coherent light beams or lasers. Over conventional marking technologies, laser marking services have advantages of faster rate of marking, low wear-and-tear and being clean, cost-effective and highly precise.
Laser marking services employ precision-laser machines which consist of a controller, a laser and a surface. The controller is a computer-operated device fed with the data to guide the movement and speed of the high-power focused light beam or a laser over a surface intended to be marked with, often, a visually decorative design. The impact of high-power laser-beam vaporizes part of the surface, hence creating a drawing on the surface.
The most common laser marking machine is the X-Y Table where either the laser or the object (but not both of them at the same time) traverse along a plane (X-Y table) in order to mark the areas for engraving. Sometimes, both laser and the object may move together in different directions for drawing the marking vectors. Some laser marking services also use other sophisticated laser machines wherein the raster scan of the surface or laser in X-Y Table is replaced by the helical movement. This is particularly useful for marking the cylindrical or awkwardly-shaped objects. A relatively newer area is sub-surface laser marking which engraves an image below the surface of a solid material, usually glass. Laser marking process releases considerable amount of thermal energy and poisonous gases as the objects often achieve gaseous state during the high-energy impact with the lasers. This precipitates use of blowers and ventilators during the laser marking process.
Though not all objects but only “laserable” materials like metal alloys and polymers can be marked using a laser, laser marking services have been widely used in the areas of product design, packaging and printing.
