3 UK Makes Big Claims Regarding Mobile Broadband

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Phil Sheppard, head of the technical division at 3 UK, has expressed his faith in mobile broadband as a worthy substitute to its faster rival, fixed line broadband. He justified his view with the claim that only a small amount of investment was needed in mobile broadband to make it a truly viable option, which could fill in the gaps left by fixed line.

Sheppard was a panellist at the government’s Broadband for All eForum seminar where he spoke about mobile broadband as being the way forward for fulfilling the government’s universal service commitment. He was taking part in a discussion about Lord Carter’s Digital Britain report and advocated the use of mobile broadband on the basis that it was a cost-effective medium and the government didn’t need to fund it at all. The only thing that was needed from the government was access to spectrum, Sheppard said. He explained that with the right spectrum, mobile broadband needed only a few thousand sites to allow almost 2 million homes, which are not covered by fixed line, to access broadband.

However, a poll by Broadband Genie could pour cold water to all the claims that Mr. Sheppard has been making. The poll revealed that only 11% of the users were happy with the service of mobile broadband (click compare mobile broadband for more info). Sheppard will thus need more than just words to justify his beliefs as the poll clearly suggested that mobile broadband still had some way to go before it can replace or even selectively substitute fixed lines, with or without additional spectrum.

Finally No Wires! Guide To Using an EVDO Internet Access Card & Router for Trade Shows

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

In February 2006 D-Link, a well known router company, and Kyocera, a well known cell phone products manufacturer, launched a product that will revolutionize how trade show exhibitors will gain access to broadband Internet access.

In most cases exhibitors didn’t have many options when it came to Internet access at trade shows, in fact there was really only one. You either rented it from the show production company or went without. At some shows the daily access rate was $500 or more. Now there is an option. In the past year wireless access through cellular phone systems has increased at a staggering rate and that access is now available in a format that can be shared by multiple users.

The technology is called EVDO and this is what cellular carriers Verizon Wireless and Sprint use to distribute a wireless broadband signal to its subscribers. A typical setup includes an account with one of these providers, a laptop and an access card that plugs into the PC card slot or PCMCIA Slot. This setup is fine if only one user wanted access, but what if you wanted to create a wired or wireless network?

This is where the "revolution" takes place…the EVDO router. This router, available at Kyocera and at D-Link in the near future, enable you to take the access card and share it via a wired or wireless access. Similar technologies existed before this router came out, but they weren’t billed as affordable options. The Kyocera EVDO Router has a street price of $250 – $300. These are the items you will need in order to use this technology.

Internet Access Account – $60-$100 per month* – Verizon Wireless or Sprint
EVDO PC Card – $50-$200**
EVDO Router – $250-$300***
Total – $1740-$2900 – based on 24 Months of Service

*see service provider’s websites for details and offers.
**see service provider’s websites for details and offers.
***see hardware provider’s websites for details and offers.

Currently, most service providers require you to sign a 24 month contract for both a phone and Internet access to get their lowest rate so please check to see if service (Verizon Coverage, Sprint Coverage) and what plans are available in your area. The total cost of 24 months of service and hardware can be equal to what one company pays for access at one show so you can see the incredible value. You also have the use of a technology that enables you to have access to the Internet 24/7/365 without the need of any wires.

When EVDO is coupled with state-of-the-art portable batteries then the technology can be used in ways never imagined. Imagine strapping on a framed camping backpack that has a portable battery, laptop, and an EVDO card plugged into the EVDO router. Also plugged into the router is a web-cam that has been attached to a helmet that is on your head. You now have a wireless, portable, go anywhere webcasting solution. Couple this setup with a wireless bluetooth headset that plugs into an EVDO phone (specialized phone that can be used with the router) and now you can provide interactive tours of the show floor with two-way communication that is broadcast back to a website. Other uses include POS systems and credit card authorization systems.

The way I see it, EVDO will not only save thousands of exhibitors’ money but it has created a new level of connectivity for our industry. It will also be used to create a whole new category of trade show experiences and for me that is the most exciting part!

Video Biographies; Why Hire a Professional?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

There are lots of reasons to create a video biography. Some people have a desire to share and pass down stories from one generation to another while others would like to leave behind a family or personal legacy. Whatever your reason is, while creating a video biography can an incredibly enriching and rewarding experience, it can also be a very daunting task.

There are many things to consider before you start your project. Here are just a few:

The Story

It is my opinion that if your stories require a lot of details such as time, date, place, clothing worn, and other historically factual data, then just pick one or two stories to tell. Many people bite off more than they can chew and get discouraged when they start to understand the effort truly involved in just putting together their storyline. If you would like to tell several stories that tell of a person’s character or lessons learned than it is probably not necessary to go into a considerable amount of detail.

Who Will be Involved?

Are you working alone on this project or with a group of people such as other family members or friends? The more input you receive from other people the more time it can take to put together your story and content. This is not a bad thing, just something to be aware of.

Content

What kinds of content do you want to incorporate into your production? Photos, slides, video from different sources such as VHS tape, 8 or 16mm home movies, documents, quotes, personal interviews, narration? The list goes on and on.

You’re Audience

Who is the desired audience for your project? Is it close friends or relatives, will your Piece de Résistance be passed down to future generations for their viewing pleasure? Sometimes these questions must be answered before any other considerations because they may determine what kinds of stories and how much detail you will add.

The Delivery Method

For many years VHS tape was the standard for viewing video at home. However DVD is now the medium of choice for many reasons. On screen menus and chapters that allow for much easier navigation, superior audio and video quality, and longevity are just a few reasons DVD has become so very popular. However the internet has also become a viable means of delivering video. If you have a personal website then family and friends around the globe can access your video as soon as it is posted.

All of the points above require serious consideration and expertise. A professional video biographer can help you answer these questions and more. They can keep you on task; help you stay focused, craft your project into a meaningful video biography that will be cherished by family and friends now as well as future generations to come.

Japanese Cuisine in Melbourne

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

The city of Melbourne has some wonderful hospitality service and has some amazing places to wine and dine. I have migrated here for more than 6 years, I have been fortunate enough to have tasted some of the world-class dishes from diverse culinary arts offered by eateries in Melbourne.

Taking an interest in the Japanese culture, I have always loved Japanese food. Since living in Melbourne, I have visited many japanese restaurants and have tried many dishes that they have to offer. Some great and some bad, I can frequently tell if the food is good by the individuals working the restaurant. I have made my own assumption that if the restaurant is ran and controlled by Japanese, the food that it makes is dependable.

There are numerous Japanese cuisine franchises in Melbourne which are not owned and operated by Japanese. The level of service and quality of food that it produces is questionable. Yes, the price will be more inexpensive but the legitimacy of the taste and the level of service that you are getting is bad. If you are serious about Japanese food, take the time to research and inquire around. You will often find that there is a Japanese restaurant just around the corner from you that you have not noticed.

I find myself dining in this particular restaurant in Melbourne more often these days ” Takumi. They is situated handily in the city and is accessible by public transportation. They specialise in wagyu beef and modern Japanese cuisines. They are fully owned and operated by a Japanese family and the level of service that they have provided me is marvellous. They offer a unique style of bbq dishes with their state-of-the-art smoke-free barbeque tables.

So, if you are visiting Australia, be sure to take the time to explore and visit the many Melbourne Japanese restaurants.

How Fans Use the Internet to Guarantee Their Ticket

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

It’s Forever been tough to get hold of a ticket for a music gig or sports event. For example, the entire U2 have just sold 2,500,000 tickets for their 2009 tour of the US. How does someone who’s at work while the tickets are on sale in reality get a ticket?

Go online and buy one.

In the dark days prior to the internet, you had to purchase your second-hand ticket via a dodgy tout at the event itself. This meant paying double or triple the face value, or even possibly given bogus tickets which would inevitably be spotted as you entered the event – meaning you miss the sports event or music gig while wasting your dosh by being diddled.

Nonetheless, things have gotten much better for sports and music devoteesThe secondary ticket marketplace has cleaned up its act in the last 10 years or so, thanks to the internetThanks to the internet, the ticket resale market has cleaned up its act in the last decade. These days there is so much competition to resell tickets on the internet, the marketplace has actually become self-regulating. Your tickets don’t have insurance? I’l buy that ticket somewhere else! And so many ticket agents provide insurance if the event / gig is cancelled. And with tough competition online, resale tickets have dropped in price to the stage that sometimes you’re not paying a lot more than the actual initial price of the ticket. Many ticket purchasers compare prices between dozens of traders selling secondary tickets for the same event. They check the sale prices, seating, insurance, and even history of the vendor before deciding to purchase or not – so the force has very much moved away from the dodgy looking tout of days gone by to the ticket buyer.

These days you can get tickets for all sorts of concerts and sporting events. From soccer to basketball matches to cricket, right through to getting your hands on decent seats for a world famous band; secondary tickets provide a 2nd chance to go to the gig you want to go to. So how to get hold of tickets online? Simply use a search engine and type in your keywords like Depeche Mode tickets, and you will find a huge range of secondary ticket brokers who can offer that ticket to you.

Author Clinton J Veasey discusses how to find the best carp rods

Fishing has become a popular sport and hobby. A lot of people go on fishing trips regularly throughout the year. One of the most important things that you’ll need to buy is carp tackle and you should find a range of options online and in stores.

First things first, if you’re interested in buying carp tackle, you’ll have a few things to think about. You’ll have to consider a budget because knowing how much to spend is important. It’s quite easy to work this out as long as you do your research.

Go to your favourite search engine, whether it’s Google or somewhere else, and type in products that you’re looking for. You should also have a pen and paper with you so that you can write down the prices as you go. Once you have a list of prices you should easily be able to work out a realistic budget.

Make a note of offers and deals as you browse the web and make sure that you keep an eye on the quality of products. You want to ensure that you don’t opt for the cheapest price without considering quality. If you do this, you could end up with low quality products that won’t last you very long.

It’s sometimes a good idea to head into your local fishing store to see what they have to offer. However, only do this when you’ve seen carp tackle online and you’re aware of what the good deals should look like. Also, make sure that you bear quality in mind.

Buying online will give you access to a much larger range of products and usually the prices are better as well. Just make sure that you prioritise buying online because it’s so much easier to get good deals when compared with shopping on the high street.

Overall, as long as you do your research, buying carp tackle should be easy. It’s simple to find offers online but you’ll have to ensure that you keep your wits about you and look out for deals that could be too good to be true. Keep a pen and paper with you when you’re browsing online so that you can make a note of the offer that you like the look of.

How to Differentiate Offshore Jurisdictions

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Now some (scheming organizations are presenting organizations and bank accounts in numerous diverse authorities with a shopping list of states available, almost every one of them no longer credible, many being located on Caribbean islands and are beguiling the customers into believing they are real offshore administrations with secrecy advantages. That’s not right!!!
Let’s examine some things to look for when shopping for an offshore jurisdiction.

Bank Privacy – Without this we are not interested. We need the bank to not be able to reveal any information about the bank account inclusive of whether or not such a bank account even exists, unless there is an decree from a effective court in the nation where the bank is based. More secrecy than this does not exist any place today. Numbered accounts are withdrawn. Sparbuch accounts in Austria are all vanished. Yes, I know individuals propose them for sale on internet sites but they are all long gone and closed down. The bank privacy policies must be inscribed into the law of the country in question. Belize has no such bank secrecy laws published in their laws, people just appear to trust them although there would be no legal penalization for them to expose bank information if they realize it fit to do so. We require bank privacy policies to call for imprisonment and civil penalties for any violations in addition to let for one to bring a suit against the bank for trespasses. Panama is capable of doing so.

MLAT – Mutual Legal Assistance treaty. Many nations have gone into into these understandings. To checkfor the list of nations that have inscribed into these arrangements with the USA courtesy of the US Government click here: http://travel.state.gov/law/info/judicial/judicial_690.html

It is surprising as to how many countries are in such agreements. Even Panama is in such an agreement but it is reasonably moderate in scope.
