History of Olmec Civilisation

Friday, June 27th, 2008

A History of Olmec Civilization.
The first relatively modern awakening to the existance of the Olmecs
was when plantation workers in 1862 came upon hat they thought was a large, buried, iron kettle. Upon further excavation, and driven by thoughts of buried treasure, they finally excavated a huge stone carved head, which turned out to be the first Olmec sculpture to be discovered in Mexico.

OLMEC ORIGINS.
Who were the Olmecs? What is known about them is that they preceded the Mayans in Mesoamaerica, and are thought to be the foundation of all subsequent cultures in that part of the Americas, though there is evidence of humans going back to 20,000 B.C. There will always be differing opinions when it comes to dates, but the Olmes are believed to have originated in around 1250 B.C. and disappeared around 400 B.C. A common feature with theirs and later civilisations were that they:-

Followed a 365 day year.
Built pyraminds.
Cultivated corn.
All had similar religious rituals and the same Gods of fertility, war, sky & nature.

Regarding the thick-lipped Negroid features of their carvings, some
researchers postulate that the Olmecs originally came from Africa, and
indeed their language is very similar to that spoken today in Mali. Details of facial scaring & lines on Olmec statues also bear similarities to tribal marks found among the Yoruba peoples of West Africa.

OLMEC LANDS.
Their range of influence extended from the Tuxtlas mountains in the
west, to Contalpa in the eastern Mexican lowlands, around the Gulf of
Mexico area. The three largest Olmec cities were:-

La Venta in Tabasco (the eastern sector), dominated the rich coastal
estuaries, including the cocao, rubber & salt trade.

San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan in Veracruz was at the center of the Olmec civilization, and an important political/religious center, which controlled the vast flood plains of the Coatzacoalco basin and river trade routes. The first drainage system in Mesoamerica was discovered there, consisting of channeled blocks of stone set into the earth, covered with slabs. Their region is also famous for the colossal basalt carved heads, weighing 20-40 tons each.

Laguna de los Cerros, also in Veracruz, to the West, controlled the
important basalt mines/mountains, important for the manufacture of Metates (stones for grinding food), & monuments.

OLMEC ART.
The Olmecs must have had a high regard for art as many cave paintings & huge stone scullptures have been found, along with jade artefacts & statues. Typical Olmec art featured jaguars, thick-lipped soldiers and goatee-bearded men and often a combination of jaguar and children. As they believed themselves to be descendants of the Jaguar, the animal was held in very high esteem, often featuring in religious ceremonies. Some of these huge carved stone heads have been found up to 100km away from the source of stone, leaving researchers still wondering exactly how they managed to transport such massive pieces those distances, though the most likeliest explanation must be that they floated them on barges down the extensive network of rivers.

WORK & PLAY.
Rubber was first exloited by the Olmecs and various carvings show ball
games where the ball could be deflected off elbows, hips, knees and
head, though using the hands was considered an illegal move. Initially,
the Olmecs in the swampy tropical heartland lived a hunter-gatherer
lifestyle, later spreading to outlying areas and developing agriculture and distinct political & economic hierarchies as wealth and commerce with outside people grew.

RELIGION Olmec religion featured mainly worship of the Jaguar and Werejaguars (children with Jaguar features), though snake worship was popular too. They believed that the Jaguar was very closely associated with a person’s spirit and that should the Jaguar die, the person would also die. In common with all religions, to maintain their position in society the Olmec ruling elite needed to make the people believe either that they were Gods or that they were associated with The Gods (Gods of Fire, Water, Earth & Sun were the popular deities).

Their religion, symbolic language and archtictural systems seemed strong & popular enough to have lasted through to the Zapotecs, Teotihuacans and Mayan peoples, until everything changed with the Spanish conquests of Hernandez Cortez and Spanish influence. That of the Catholic Church being especially instrumental in destroying the old
Gods and bringing a new one that eventually spread throughout the
whole of South America.

Some might argue that Catholicism brought about changes for good and others point to the great poverty of the majority of predominantly Catholic South America.

Whatever your opinions, I will just leave you with this thought:-

“Religion is regarded by the common people as true,
by the wise as false, and by rulers as convenient.”

Seneca the Younger. (3 B.C.-65 A.D.)

Believe in Self; Trusting Yourself

Friday, June 20th, 2008

If you wish to succeed in life you must believe in yourself and trusting yourself is one of the most important things for developing self-confidence and self-esteem. It is great to rely on the strength of others and fellow team members. It is great to rely on the strength of your parents, your mentors, your pastor and your coaches, but if you do not believe in yourself and your abilities and your strength of character and inter personal will you will not succeed in life and you might as well just live a life of mediocrity like everyone else on the planet and forget about success.

If you truly want to achieve something in your life and you have the vision and a goal and you have committed yourself and have the dedication and personal drive to see it through then you will need to believe in yourself. No one can take away your self-confidence, your self-esteem or your strength of character and will to succeed except for you.

No one without your permission can get you to believe that you are inferior in some way or that you cannot achieve something, as there is nothing in this world that is impossible and I can tell you from personal experience, achievement and kicking everyone’s butt in everything I do, that you can do anything you set your mind to. No matter what it is and no matter how much use suck at it would you start.

You see, I am a terrible writer, well I was and then I decided to do something about it and I wrote 6400 articles in 18 months and now I am a decent writer and someday I will be great writer. You can do anything you put your mind to, no one can take this ability away from you and the sky is the limit if you believe in yourself. Trust yourself on this in 2006.

I’ll Have What She’s Having!

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

What if every time you entered a room people would say, “Wow, I want what she’s having!” Do you think that might generate new clientele for your business? You bet it would! It’s called attraction and it is the most powerful tool in your business-growing toolkit. Heck, it’s one of the most powerful tools in your life!

I want to be sure to clarify here…they aren’t thinking, “Boy I want what she’s selling,” they’re thinking, “I want what she’s having!” You see, we are attracted to those people who exude a life, an attitude, and a spirit that reflects what we want for ourselves. We want to be with and work with people who inspire, challenge or support us in our personal journey. I buy things I “need” wherever it is most convenient for me and where I can trust in the quality of both customer service and products/services. However, I buy what I “want” from people and businesses who I can get excited about. I love telling my friends, family and clients about these people and businesses because I love what they add to my life. I love the unique services/ products and/or inspiration they provide me. Me, Me, Me!!! Catch a theme there? Yep, clients seek us out because of what we have to offer that can make “their life” better.

So how do we get people saying, “I’ll have what she’s having?” It’s fairly simple and I have broken it down into three powerful action steps that really work: First, Practice Extreme Self-care; Second, Master “Authentic Listening”; and Third, Take a Powerful Risk Everyday.

1. Practice Extreme Self-care

That’s right, practice not just basic self-care, but “extreme” self-care! In order to get people saying “I’ll have what she’s having,” you have to be living a zesty, yummy life. People don’t want what you’re having if they see that you aren’t having any fun, you’re constantly stressed out and you neglect yourself. They already have that. They want your experience of joy, abundance and sometimes even indulgent living. Now that sounds yummy!

How can you indulge yourself today? Perhaps a massage, a candle-lit bath, or an hour of reading that special book you’ve been meaning to get to.

Look for opportunities each day to bask in at least one activity of extreme self-care and don’t be afraid to tell people how you are taking care of your mind, body and spirit in these ways. Not only does it get people saying that they want what you’re having (wonderful for business), but it also gives them permission to do the same (your gift to them–bonus).

2. Master “Authentic Listening”

Think of yourself as a “Humanity Investigator.” It may seem counter intuitive to be inquisitive rather than telling people about you, but this really is a powerful mechanism for attracting people to your business and your life for that matter. What is the one thing people want more than anything? They want to be heard. Really heard. Being truly heard helps to authenticate one’s humanity.

By taking every chance offered to listen authentically and ask genuine and intentioned questions, you not only learn about your clients (they’re needs, wants, etc.), but you also gain their trust as a confidant. People trust those who truly engage with “them”. If people know you’re only waiting for an opportune time to market your services, they won’t be attracted to you. In fact, they’ll be looking for the nearest exit.

Listening with authenticity is not something you will want to take lightly. It is a genuine and real willingness to vicariously participate in and inquire into the life and experience of another human being. This cannot be faked. People know if you are not listening authentically. If you aren’t they will feel even less valued and heard than if you’d never asked them a question at all. Recall the last time you talked with someone that you knew had little or no interest in what you were saying but asked you perfunctory questions just to be “nice.” Would you ever seek that person out for future communications or business? Not a chance.

So listen “authentically” and learn all you can about the amazing people that surround you in your journey on this planet. Your childlike curiosity and security in who you are (not needing to sell them on you) will have them saying yet again, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

3. Take a Powerful Risk Everyday

This third step seems simple, but it really does take an active effort on your part. Powerful risks are risks with an anticipated outcome. They are not just risks taken for the sake of scaring the “begeebers” out of you.

What is one thing you’ve been putting off doing because it causes you fear or makes you uncomfortable? Do you believe doing that thing will likely impact your life or business for the better? Take a moment to write that action down. Then write the result or outcome(s) you think could manifest as a result of taking that action. If seeing that result/outcome on paper generates a sense of lightness or motivation, use that energy to plan out how and when you will take the risk. It’s your life in the making, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to make it spectacular!

Powerful Risk taking is the key to creating a life that is “over the top” wonderful!

“If no one ever took risks, Michelangelo would have painted on the Sistine floor.” Neil Simon

Again, as you take powerful risks, share them with others. And don’t stop there; share the results with them too! It is amazing how verbally acknowledging our risks and celebrating the powerful outcomes with others magically motivates us to continue taking even more life-altering actions.

What do you think people will say when they hear your enthusiasm, your courage, and the rich results of your actions? You guessed it–”I’ll have what she’s having!”

Are you ready to “kick it up a notch” and get people wanting what you’re having? Are you ready to attract more business, more abundance, more love, and more fun into your existence? It’s a simple but challenging formula that you can begin implementing today!

Remember: Practice Extreme Self-Care; Master “Authentic Listening”; and Take a Powerful Risk Everyday. Begin attracting all you want for yourself in 2006. Be the one that enters the room to a rousing chorus of, “Wow, I’ll have what she’s having”!

Here’s to your success.

Network Marketers – How To Start An Effective Conversation When Calling Leads

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I was recently talking with a colleague about the quickest and easiest ways to build a network marketing business.

We both agreed that using a proper lead program is an excellent way for Network Marketers and MLM Distributors to build their business. If done properly, that is.

After all, the people who respond to the advertisements for these programs have “raised their hands” and said they are interested in a business opportunity.

However, many Network Marketers get poor or only mediocre results from their leads. Even when every single month they spend a hundred dollars, two hundred dollars or even more.

And, of course, poor results mean that all those dollars have been wasted and gone down the drain.

Now, over the years I have worked with many distributors and observed first hand the results of many lead programs.

Usually, any time someone is not getting results from a proper lead program, the problem is not the leads themselves. The reason for the disappointing results is how the distributor has approached the leads.

For example, many Network Marketers are taught to use “canned” scripts when they call leads. Or to focus on getting the person to listen in on a conference call which will “close” them on the opportunity.

Unfortunately, there’s a huge problem when you do things like this. The people you’re contacting feel like you’re treating them as nothing more than sheep being rounded up.

It’s no surprise that people hate being treated this way. They respond by raising objections and rejecting what you have to offer.

Instead of falling into this trap, ask yourself this question. Why has someone responded to an advertisement about a business opportunity?

The answer is that they’re looking to make a change in their lives. So your job is to find out what that is and interview them. You’re looking to discover if what you have will fit what they’re looking for.

Equally important, you want to discover if they are the kind of person that you’re looking for. Someone who will be an enthusiastic and keen member of your team.

I’m sure you’ll agree that starting off the conversation on the right foot is critical. Here’s the six-step formula I suggest for calling and connecting with someone from a lead list:

Step 1: State who you are.
Step 2: Where you are from.
Step 3: Give them a ‘heads up’ as to why you’re calling, by referencing and reminding them that they asked you to.
Step 4: Ask them if this is a good time.
Step 5: Discover if they are still looking.
Step 6: Find out their present situation and ask how you can help them.

Let’s look at an example of this. Say I’ve chosen to call a lead named Mary:

Step 1: “Hi Mary, this is Michael Oliver”
Step 2: “Of XYZ Company”
Step 3: “You recently enquired about a home-based business opportunity, and I’m calling to find out if I can help?”
Step 4: “Is this a good time for you?”
Step 5: “Good! Let me start by asking you a question – have you found what you wanted or are you still looking?”
Step 6: “Okay. Well, before I get into what I’ve got, perhaps you can tell me a little about you and what you’re looking for, for example, are you presently working?” (or ask some other Background Question.)

I’ve discovered the response to just one question can give you enough material to converse on for several minutes of meaningful relationship building conversation. People really do have the answers, all you need are the right questions – and to give them time to answer them.

Remember to:

1.Listen to the answers.
2.Ask questions to gather more information.
3.Ask them to expand on their answers and where they are coming from.
4.Ask them to expand on what they are looking for.

Once you’ve discovered more about what they’re looking for then you’re much better able to explain how what you have to offer can provide what they want.

One final tip. Leads are like bananas; they ripen quickly, so use them promptly. If time is an issue think about handing some out to your associates. If you’re reticent about calling the leads, remind yourself you’re calling someone who has asked you to call. It’s impolite not to return their request!

An Overview of Martial Arts Equipment

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Mom, can I take karate lessons?
It’s a question that’s bound to come up if you’re raising boys – and increasingly girls. Martial arts training has become as popular with girls as dance and gymnastics used to be. The media attention to such martial sports and fighting arts as kickboxing, muay thai, karate, jiu-jitsu, tae kwon do and other forms of martial arts have fueled their popularity among youth and adults.

One of the least discussed aspects of martial arts training among non-initiates is the equipment and gear that you’ll need. If you or your child(ren) are considering signing up for martial arts classes, here’s a brief overview of the types of equipment that you may need to purchase for training.

Uniforms
Martial arts uniforms may all look alike to the uninitiated, but each style of the martial arts has specific styles of uniforms that have evolved or been designed specifically to fit that style of fighting and competition. Many schools sell the uniform that they expect you to wear for class and competition, but if they don’t check with the instructor to find out exactly what you should be wearing. Some special considerations for the various forms are the following:

Tae kwon do
The tae kwon do uniform generally has a v-neck pullover top and more close-fitting pants than a standard karate uniform. Students are generally required to wear white uniform pants and shirts, while masters and instructors may wear black uniform tops. The belt is long and designed to double-wrap and tie in the front, and its color designates the training level of the wearer.

Judo
Judo focuses more on grappling and throwing techniques than on kicks and jabs. The uniform has evolved to reflect this, featuring a tighter fit and more reinforcing and padding than the uniforms worn for most other martial arts. Look for a uniform that has reinforced stitching at stress points, and quilted padding to enhance gripping ability and protection. The judo gi consists of two parts – the top or joi, and the shitibaki, loose drawstring waist pants. Student uniforms are typically white or black – though black is not officially endorsed – and competition uniforms are white or blue.
In addition to practice uniforms, there may be team uniforms and competition uniforms, so be sure to check with the school or instructor to find out what kind of uniform you’ll need for various events.

Martial arts equipment – shoes and footwear
As with most other aspects of martial arts training, footwear is often decided by the individual dojo or instructor. For many, bare feet is the only acceptable footwear in class. Others require students to wear shoes with flexible, soft, gripping soles. Major sports shoe manufacturers like Adidas make shoes designed especially for wearing in martial arts training and competition.

Protective Martial arts equipment
In addition to the uniforms, you may also be required to purchase protective gear for training and sparring. At the very least, most schools and instructors require that students wear mouth guards when sparring, and may require that students wear head protectors, chest guards, shin guards, athletic protectors and wrist/hand guards. The uniforms in some forms of martial arts are designed to offer protection, but it’s not a standard rule. As with uniforms, check with the school or instructor to find out what sort of protective martial arts equipment you’ll need.

Training Equipment for Martial Arts
More advanced students may be looking for training equipment to continue their training at home. Among the most popular and useful pieces of martial arts equipment for training are stretch bands and stretchers. These training aids offer resistance training and conditioning that are necessary to prevent injury in martial arts training and competition. Other martial arts equipment that students will encounter at the dojo include training dummies, wave trainers, body bags, breaking boards, kick shields and targets.

Martial arts weapons
For many students, the use of exotic Eastern weapons is one of the most fascinating parts of martial arts. In most martial arts forms, training with weapons is an advanced subject, not attempted until students have mastered using their own bodies and have been trained to focus their strength and power. There are, however, some forms of martial arts where empty hand and weapons training take place concurrently. The most popular martial arts weapons are the following:

Nunchaku are lengths of wood connected by a cord. In trained hands, they make an extremely effective and very flashy weapon. Possession of nunchaku is illegal in many countries. In the U.S., legality is regulated at the state level.

Escrima are staffs or sticks used for fighting and blocking.

Shuriken are also known as throwing stars. They are small bladed stars used for throwing.

Have More Fun With Boating Accessories

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Looking back on childhood days at the lake, I know my summers would not have been complete without all the fun times in the water. Kids are often happy to play with mud and sticks on the shore of a lake. But why not take it up a notch for your family and get a boat with all the fun boating accessories? Depending on what your family prefers, you might get a fishing boat with all the gear, poles, bait and munchies to contribute to your days of fishing.

If your family is the athletic type, a ski or wakeboarding boat will provide endless hours of fun and entertainment. Boating accessories for ski boats can be purchased online, through catalogs and in sporting goods stores. Serious water skiers won’t be satisfied with just any old set of skis. They want cutting edge technology that will let them slice through the water at top speed. They also want gloves, shin guards, wetsuits and lifejackets. Even having the right ski rope that doesn’t stretch under pressure is vital for serious skier success. For those who aren’t inclined to ski, it’s always a good idea to have an inner tube handy. It doesn’t take much skill at all to ride an inner tube behind a boat, but it sure can be entertaining for everyone!

8 Quick, Hot Reasons You Should Offer an E-mail Course Today

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

1. E-mail courses are generally quick and easy to create. Contents for your e-mail courses are everywhere — old articles, interviews, information from doing research. You only need to know how to organize them and make the content easy to understand and follow.

2. You can append your sales letters at the end of your e-mail courses. People who take your e-mail courses can learn something valuable from you first, and when they’re done, they will be more receptive to your follow-up letters.

3. E-mail courses can help you attract visitors to your Web site. You can’t put everything in an e-mail course so you can actually place links within your e-mail course messages. These links can point to more information found on your site. You can promote your Web site’s URL in each message.

4. E-mail courses can help you gain more subscribers for your e-zine. Make people aware that subscribers of your e-zine are always the ones to get first dibs on your e-mail courses.

5. You can run your e-mail courses hands-free. You just need to create and arrange your e-mail messages in the order you want them to be delivered to your participants, then put them in a sequential autoresponder. Your e-mail courses then become your 24/7 promoter!

6. E-mail courses can help you get leads and you can promote your products or services to these people. And by making your e-mail courses 100% opt-in, the risk of being accused of sending unsolicited e-mails is significantly reduced.

7. People won’t ever need to download any special software before they can take your e-mail courses. All they need is an e-mail address. They can read your e-mail course lessons straight from their e-mail clients (Eudora, Pegasus, Outlook Express) or on the Web (Hotmail, Yahoo!Mail or any Web-based e-mail).

8. You can tailor your e-mail courses to promote specific products or services you are selling on your Web site. If your e-mail course consists of 10 lessons delivered in 10 e-mail messages, then people who take your e-mail course are exposed to your product or service 10 consecutive times. This definitely increases your chances of getting your product or service bought.
